A Doleful Evening

Yes, it's November 15th, and I'm done. 50k ftw!

This morning, I became a winner. Yes, folks, that'd be 50,000 words in 15 days, two weeks early! I'm kind of impressed, or would be if my novel wasn't the epitome of suck in so many, many ways. Unsurprisingly, continuing the trend, I find myself disliking it very much by the end. Heck, it's not even the end, by 50k I was just getting into the interesting stuff. I might continue it, or I might go back and start all over now that I have the luxury of doing so . . . because heaven knows that it needs editing.

Honestly, it's probably Dragon Age Origins fault that I fell out of sync with my novel; it seduced me with its amazingness! And Alistair, ohohoho, Alistair. But yes, love that game, and have been playing it in between writing binges. It's high fantasy which I have a personal love for, and which I almost wrote this year so I ended up going "I wish I was writing fantasy!" since November 5th when I got it. xD

I feel a bit aimless right now, finishing so early. It's bittersweet; on the one hand, I've finished but on the other hand the quality suffered significantly for it. Also, now I have nothing to do . . . or I can do everything and anything I want to do. Decisions, decisions.

Also, wow, I only posted once since Day One. Everything went so fast, it's all a wordy blur!

Today went very well! I woke up at around 5:30 (yes, that would be AM folks, it exists!) and had the following conversation with my main characters, Oliver and Reese, aka the Muses for this year:

Muses: Wakey, wakey! It's time to write!
Me: *mumbles incoherently about the ungodly hour*
Muses: *jumps on bed* Up and at'em! Time to get crackin'!
Me: Do you know what time it is?
Muses: Yes.
Me: Can't I --?
Muses: No.
Me: But --
Muses: Write.
Me: Fine.

And I must say, of my opening paragraphs from past NaNo's, this one was the best. The story's starting out fairly slow, but now that I've gotten the obligatory exposition-chapter-one out of the way, I can really start delving into the more fun stuff. Still, definitely not a bad day's work! It's going to need a lot of editing, I can tell already, but I like to think of this novel being the muscle and circulatory system and all that good stuff to the skeleton (which would be the outline I had/have in my head); it will get its skin and look pretty during editing.

Hark, an idea!

So I've been a little anxious (see also: freaking out) because I didn't have an idea yet. Well. That changed yesterday where, in my depressed idea-less state, I went to food and TV. It was there (watching TV, not eating food) I happened upon the History Channel which was talking about a 'what if' scenario in which there was a nuclear attack in the United States, and consequently what would happen afterward. Now, if you don't know me, I tend to see story ideas in pretty much everything. xD As it happened, I'd come up with an idea a while back involving apocalyptic background and it sprang to mind then more powerful and clearly than ever. More importantly, it made much more sense and was overall a better idea than anything I'd come up with yet.

And even more importantly than that, I was excited to write it!

So now I have a semi-idea that's growing more and more into a coherent plot every day. I'm uncertain what genre it's going to be yet, but I'm feeling like it's Mainstream since it focuses on characters and their relationships more than any specific genre; if not Mainstream, then probably Romance though I feel the subject matter and everything is a bit darker than your average romance. In any case, exciting stuff!

In other NaNo related news, I've signed up to join a team at nanoljers and am pretty pumped about that. On top of a bet with princessriku and apollo_gize I'm going to have quite a lot of competition stuffs riding on winning NaNoWriMo this year but that's cool; I work well under pressure. SO BRING IT ON.

More details may follow, and idea is also subject to change since I'm always thinking of new stuff. xD

NaNoWriMo '09: Third Time's the Charm

Done and done! :D I may just write a little bit more because I have the time (a week early, woot!) and for closure's sake, but we'll see! At least now I can chill back and relax. :)

I DID IT! I WON! OMGOSH. This is the best feeling in the world! I just feel so fantastic. Good luck to those who are still chugging along! When you reach that finish line, it is like you can hear the cheering and the clapping. And boy, does it make everything--all the hard work and labor--worth it. So worth it.

YAY! They finally had a real romantic moment! At long last! Of course, it wasn't much, and semi-rushed, but MEH. Huzzah for kissing in the rain! Poor Clay, though, was completely taken by surprise and quite befuddled...but oh, it was satisfying! ^_^

Have any of you had a "HECKYES!" moment in your novel yet? :)

I am SO past 8,335 words. Yay me!

The longer I write, the easier it seems to become. I'm a little worried that I'll be too busy to write (or distracted by the new Xbox 360 that I got today for my birthday) but I shall make time! I have a gorgeous muse right now and he says write...and so I shall!

Finally, it's here. November 1st. Is it sad I was more excited about NaNoWriMo than my actual birthday (which is on the fifth)? ...nah.

I shall begin my novel in a few minutes, and my word count goal today is at least 2,000. Especially since I may not get to write on Saturday, and I have all day to write today!

Good luck to all my friends and those who are attempting a novel beginning today as well! You can do it!
